Scope and Contents
This subseries contains papers relating to Sacramento area and National marches, initiatives, rallies, protests, legislation, and more regarding gay and lesbian rights. This includes information about “lesbian witch hunts” at Parris Island in the late 1980’s. This subseries also includes information about the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, which was created by noted gay activist Cleve Jones and placed at the National Mall in 1987. There is also a record of an ordinance adopted in Sacramento in 1986 to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
