Pay Equity, 1980-1985
Scope and Contents
This subseries includes articles, notes, and letters regarding the gender pay gap, including information about a Sunkist Boycott based on the belief that the company’s pay, hiring, and promotional practices were sexist. These papers also address Proposition E for the City of San Francisco, and arguments for and against the proposition, from the Gazette Telegraph, Sacramento Bee, San Francisco Chronicle, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and Business Week. Proposition E, which NOW members opposed, would repeal a comparable worth agreement between unions and the City of San Francisco which had set up a fund to correct pay inequities based on sex and race.
