Scope and Contents
The collection contains documents, diaries, letters, books, calendars, newspapers, postcards, photographs, artifacts and audiovisual media relating to the personal and professional life of Kikuyo Morimoto Nakatani and her family. The languages of the materials included in the collection are Japanese and English. The collection consists of 44 cartons (29.25 linear feet), and an oversized Flat file folder.
There are 14 main series pertaining to the Kikuyo Morimoto Nakatani papers. Series Description
The personal writings series includes the diaries and ledgers written/kept by Kikuyo Nakatani. There is also an English translation of some of the diaries included in this series. The diaries include subjects of daily life of living on their farm before the family was sent to camp, through the war years, and after they returned. Some of the diaries were being written by Kikuyo to be given to her son Kunio for when he would return from the war, to describe what his family went through while he was in the Japanese Army, but Kunio never saw these journals because he was killed when the Yamato ship he was stationed on was sunk. The diaries and ledgers are in Japanese and some English. Folder contents are listed on the subsequent pages.
